"We can't prevent everything; we can't be ready for everything but the way we respond really makes a difference."So now we know how it ended.
Love him or hate him, President Mahinda Rajapaksha made history in so many different ways. The potential he once had, is perhaps what I suspect the fleeting sadness we all felt, for a man once so well loved. Grateful and relieved were the emotions I experienced when I saw that picture of him leaving Temple Trees.
It all seems so surreal. I do not know if I have ever been so proud of Sri Lanka as I am at this moment. So proud of how our people waited, and responded. Of course we embark now on a whole set of unknowns. But that is for another day.
Today we quietly reflect on witnessing history unfold right before our eyes. Somehow faith in humanity, democracy restored within me. A new kind of hope for our country; and respect. I do not know if we have ever been so divided in our togetherness before. Yet, I do not doubt today we have won. Not just the South or the sinhala people. But all of us, Sri Lankans together have decided and supported each other.
I hope we can always feel this magic of freedom. Of democracy.
Well done, Sri Lanka!
